At DupeSave, every product recommendation is backed by a structured evaluation process. We don’t just list products — we assess them.
Our Evaluation Criteria
We rate every product across five key dimensions:
Build Quality
We examine materials, construction, weight, and finish. Does it feel like a product that will last, or does it feel disposable? We pay particular attention to hinges, seals, buttons, and any moving parts — these are where cheap products fail first.
Real-World Performance
This is the most important criterion. We aggregate feedback from verified purchasers across Amazon, eBay, and independent forums to understand how the product performs in daily use — not just in controlled tests. We look at reviews from 1 month, 3 months, and 6+ months after purchase to understand long-term performance.
Value for Money
A £200 product isn’t automatically better than a £40 one. We calculate the performance-per-pound ratio and highlight products that punch above their weight. If a product delivers 90% of a premium brand’s performance at 20% of the price, that’s a winner.
Ease of Use
Complex setup, confusing controls, and poor documentation all count against a product. The best alternatives should be plug-and-play. We evaluate unboxing experience, initial setup time, learning curve, and daily usability.
Longevity
We track long-term reviews (6+ months after purchase) to identify products that hold up over time versus those that fail after initial use. Warranty terms and customer service responsiveness are factored in.
Our Research Process
For each product category, we typically evaluate 15-25 options before narrowing to our final 5-7 recommendations. We cross-reference Amazon reviews (prioritising verified purchases), independent testing data where available, Reddit community discussions, and specialist forums. This gives us a well-rounded view that no single source can provide.
We update our recommendations regularly as new products launch and prices change. Every article includes a “last updated” date so you always know how current our advice is.
